Canadians Note: Because the Americans directly elect their President, they consider Alternative Vote to offer an improvement over the current FPTP for that single winner race. People in this group are prone to conflating STV (Single Transferable Vote, the Proportional Representation ranked ballot voting system) with the disproportional AV (Alternative Vote aka Instant Runoff Voting aka IRV) and often include both systems under their own umbrella term for preferential ballot systems “Ranked Choice Voting.”
